There are quite a few good apps on the App Store that enable you to do just that. But the one we’re going to look at is USB & Wi-Fi Flash Drive which you can get from the App Store. Once you’ve got the USB & Wi-Fi Flash Drive app installed you can follow these steps to use the storage space on your iphone to backup files:
- Connect your iPhone to the Mac using the Lightning to USB cable.
- Open the Flash Drive app
- Open iTunes
- Click on Devices > iPhone
- Click on Apps
- Scroll down to find File Sharing and click on Flash Drive in the Apps
- Drag the files and folders you want to backup to the Flash Drive Documents window on the right.
The files will now be copied from your Mac OS X desktop to the iphone storage. You can reverse the process to copy the files from iTunes File Sharing to Mac OS X. You don’t need to Sync the iPhone when using iTunes File Sharing; files are transferred to the iPhone's storage as soon as you move them to the Flash Drive Storage area in iTunes.
