Apple signals more aggressive move into the enterprise


Apple’s CFO Peter Oppenheimer and CEO Tim Cook touched on a range of topics during Apple’s quarterly earnings call Monday, but one theme surfaced repeatedly: the rise of iOS devices in enterprise environments. While Apple has traditionally reminded investors that its products are in use by more than 90% of Fortune 500 companies, that datapoint has often been a quick blip after which announcements or questions went back to other topics.

The Mac had a birthday last Friday, and what’s a birthday without a celebration? Apple employees at One Infinite Loop celebrated with a private concert by OneRepublic. But what about everyday Mac users? Many of them gathered at Cupertino’s Flint Center last Saturday night to attend the Mac 30th Celebration, organized by All Planet Studios, the Computer History Museum, and Macworld/iWorld

Thirty years ago, Apple introduced the Macintosh, and we all learned why 1984 wasn’t going to be like 1984. A lot has changed in 30 years, and yet even in as fast-moving a field as technology, Apple and the Mac are still here. A time traveler from 1984, fresh from Steve Jobs’s introduction of the original Mac, would probably be able to point at one of today’s iMacs and identify it as the logical evolution of the original.

Samsung Galaxy car? Samsung files patents for electric vehicle components


Samsung’s moved successfully from TVs to phones, and somewhat less successfully to watches, so why not a car? A Wall Street Journal report says the Korean consumer electronics giant filed patents for parts that include a new electric motor and tires designed for an electric vehicle (EV).
