Siri vs. Google Search


Siri, are you the most amazing feature on the iPhone? If you’ve seen any Apple advertising at all, you may come to the conclusion that Siri is indeed the slickest feature available on any phone ever made. You may be surprised to learn, though, that Siri isn’t the only speech-recognizing search-assistant available on the iPhone, and that it may not even be the best one.

Review: Upgrades make Retina MacBook Pro a better bargain


In the latest update to the Retina MacBook Pro, some models got price cuts, some received slightly faster processors, and some got a healthy bump in the amount of RAM. Anyone who purchased a Retina MacBook Pro prior to this refresh shouldn’t kick themselves for making the leap, but the reduced cost for the 13-inch models and faster performance for the 15-inch models make these thin, light, and fast laptops a better deal than ever.

Why do I get so much spam?


Why are there so many unwanted, tricky, manipulative, annoying, dangerous, and often illegal email messages going around? Because unscrupulous people can make a tidy profit mailing Spam. In 2010, Gmail spam expert Brad Taylor told Wired that “It costs $3,000 to rent a botnet and send out 100 million messages. It takes only 30 Viagra orders to pay for that.”

Exchange users plagued by shortened battery life now have respite in the form of iOS 6.1.2. Apple released the update to its mobile operating system on Tuesday, bringing a fix to the issue encountered by many users.

The words “Apple” and “security breach” don’t often appear together, but on Tuesday the company said that some computers belonging to its employees had been targeted by hackers originating from China—the same group, reportedly, that last week infiltrated computers belonging to Facebook employees. Adobe releases emergency Flash patch for Windows and OS X systems


Adobe recently released an emergency update for Flash Player on all platforms after two zero-day bugs were discovered in the wild targeting Windows and Mac OS X computers. The vulnerabilities allowed hackers to hijack both Windows PCs and Macs. Adobe recommends all users to update their systems as soon as possible.

If you live in a country under the European Union and you were thinking of purchasing a Mac Pro, best not to wait too much longer. Apple told reseller and channel partners Thursday that it would stop all sales of the desktop system on March 1 to comply with new EU regulatory standards.

Microsoft CEO calls Office for iOS unnecessary


Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has suggested that it isn't necessary to offer app versions of the Office applications as people can access Office through the browser.
