Apple has 'a little more to show' at Oct. 23 media event

The calendar may be running out, but Apple’s going to get in some more product announcements before the end of the year. On Tuesday, the company announced that it would be holding a media event in San Jose’s California Theatre next Tuesday, October 23 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific.
The event comes soon after Apple’s last media event on September 12, in which the company showed off a new iPhone 5, updated versions of the iPod touch and iPod nano, and more. And yet, Apple teased in its invite that it has “a little more to show you.”
Much of the speculation about an October event has revolved around the possibility that the company might release a smaller version of the iPad, which the tech press has taken to calling the “iPad mini.” Such a device would likely have a display of between 7 and 8 inches, and would seem to be a lock for the event, despite doubt from some clearly uninformed pundits.
In recent days, more rumors have surfaced—sorry, Microsoft—about the event, including the possibility of a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, and a potential revamp to the Mac mini. Other suggestions have included a push by Apple on the reading front, perhaps with updates to iBooks and iBooks Author, or a focus on education.
Whatever Apple does roll out next week, you can be sure that Macworld will be on hand with its customary live coverage. Tune in on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Pacific/1 p.m. Eastern.
